Peripheral Nerve Tumor Resection

استئصال أورام الأعصاب الطرفية

Peripheral nerves are responsible for transmitting nerve signals from the brain and spinal cord to the muscles and skin. In rare cases, tumors may develop on these nerves. Most of these tumors are benign and non-cancerous, consisting of clusters of cells that arise from within the nerve or from the cells forming the nerve sheath. These tumors can put pressure on the nerve itself or the surrounding tissues, leading to bothersome symptoms.

Common symptoms:

Pain or tingling along the path of the nerve
A palpable lump or swelling near the nerve
Weakness or numbness in the hand or foot depending on the tumor location
In some cases, symptoms only appear as the tumor grows

What is Peripheral Nerve Tumor Resection?

It is a precise microscopic surgery in which a neurosurgeon removes the tumor while preserving the nerve and its function as much as possible. The goals are:
Remove the tumor and perform a tissue analysis to determine the exact type of tumor
Reduce pain or numbness
Preserve normal nerve function

When is surgery indicated?

If the tumor causes persistent pain or weakness
When the tumor increases in size over time
If examination or imaging indicates a tumor that requires surgical intervention
